Description:
Amcor, Inc., a global manufacturer in the plastics industry, is expanding and looking for a hands-on Cost Accountant based in Thomson, GA. The right individual must be a self-starter who has worked in small to mid-sized manufacturing companies and wants to deliver results with accountability in an entrepreneurial environment. This is a developmental role ideal for candidates who are on a controller track with the desire to grow professionally and assume increasing responsibilities over time with an expanding company.

- Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm or as needed

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Company’s Controller, the Cost Accountant supports and assists with analyzing comparing, and interpreting financial figures to determine the appropriate cost of a product based on other associated expenses.
Duties:
To include but not limited to:
- Oversee inventory valuation, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Monitor inventory levels, perform regular reconciliations, and identify discrepancies or variances
- Generate accurate and timely cost reports, including cost of goods sold, production costs, and variance analysis. Communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to management, helping them make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for cost reduction, waste elimination, and productivity improvement.
- Provide financial direction / support to plant managers / core management teams
- Prepare financial analysis to monitor spending in key areas (labor, scrap, spending, inventory, etc.)
- Maintain active participation in plant operations
- Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls and ensure compliance with division policies and procedures
- Accurate and timely financial reporting of plant metrics (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
- Support physical inventory reporting and cycle count analysis
- Analyze plant labor, scrap, operational spending and inventory transactions for optimal manufacturing levels
- Participate in month-end close activities (create/post journal entries, prepare standard financial and operational reports, analyze/explain operational activities, report monthly plant performance)
- Monitor and review asset additions, transfers and disposals. Ensure complete and accurate supporting documentation
- Maintain and improve processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation.
- Assist with the regular review of excess/obsolete inventory.
- Assist in developing and documenting policies and procedures, including system requirements and internal controls.
- Other assigned duties by management when needed
Education and Experience:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance or similar technical field preferred
- 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong math and calculation skills
- General Ledger, inventory, and reporting knowledge
- Strong computer knowledge, specifically advanced MS Excel skills and basic data entry and computation
- Analytical skills with a keen sense of organization and detail
- Time Management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines
- Other key skills: attention to detail, ability to multi-task, deadline-oriented, confidentiality, thoroughness, effective interactions with colleagues as this position communicates across the company.
- Familiarity with accounting software programs, such as Sage and Access. a plus
- Respect for confidentiality of information laws and local ethics
