Description:

 Our recent expansion has opened up the new position of Mechanical Design Engineer located in Thomson, GA (outside of Augusta) to meet with clients / departments to determine their design requirements, plan and execute the design of mechanical devices / machines, develop and test prototypes, and work closely with the manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met.

 

To be a successful mechanical design engineer, you should be mathematically and mechanically minded and have strong analytical and critical thinking abilities. Should possess detailed knowledge of engineering and design principles and be able to find creative solutions to technical problems. Also, be a responsible team member and project coordinator working closely with the production and maintenance departments as well as other internal resources and external contractors towards coordinating and driving projects, initiatives and actions forward. Support industrial engineering equipment / capital projects within the manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities:

To include but not limited to:

 

  • Meeting with various teams to determine mechanical applications and requirements.
  • Designing new machines from scratch with detailed drawings.
  • Conducting research to inform the design and engineering methods required for the mechanical systems.
  • Planning and executing mechanical designs using 3D CAD, CAM programs.
  • Performing computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine the designs.
  • Overseeing the development and manufacturing of physical prototypes for testing.
  • Making drawings for obsolete machine parts and getting them made to specifications.
  • Documenting the design process, iterations, and test analytics.
  • Managing project timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Liaising with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence.
  • Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in technology, design trends, and engineering best practices.

 

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or other technically related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.
  • Proficiency with engineering design programs such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Creo.
  • Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practices.
  • The ability to stay abreast of advancements in technology and engineering design trends., or
  • Experience in plastics industry (Plastic extrusion, Injection Molding, Compounding).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to manage priorities and conflicting timelines, work in a fast paced / hands-on environment, handle high pressure situations and bring a positive approach to problem solving.
  • High energy personality with excellent people skills, a willingness to learn, develop and seek solutions, being resourceful and get the job done.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written, with ability to work with people at all levels from production associates to executives.
  • Other key skills: results and dead-line orientation, prioritization & goal setting, attention to detail and thoroughness, excellent time management skills.
